Friends of Globe (Our Parent Association)
We are a group of parents who give our time on a voluntary basis to organise and run fundraising activities for our school community and whilst a relatively new body, pride ourselves in our fully inclusive approach to organising events and contributing to life here at Globe School.
Our aim is to use the funds we generate to provide ‘extras’ for the school. For example we have raised money for the school football kit and a badge making machine, as well as 'urban' music makers for the roof playground and the large scale outdoor games for the main playground. There is also an exciting Saturday Club run by FOGS and have recently paid for two volunteer leaders to attend a First Aid Course.
The main activities of the year are the summer and Christmas Fairs, and other events throughout the year include Movie Nights, a Halloween Disco and the ever popular cake sales. As well as providing Stickers and Easter Eggs we regularly contribute to Red Nose Day and Children in Need, through ticket and raffle selling in the playground.
We also organise the annual Y6 leavers barbeque and disco, paying for the children to have a final social event before they move to secondary school and also the school Talent Show, which whilst not a big fund raiser, is greatly enjoyed by the staff, pupils and parents. We also support the staff during the set up and break down of Sports Day and provide the medals.
In addition, the school gives us a ‘wish list’ of items they feel would be of benefit. For example, last year we bought the times-table display boards for the main playground and we’re currently in discussions to provide more benches in both playgrounds.
How you can get involved
All parents are automatically members of the Parents Association when their child starts at Globe School, and you can be as active as you wish. There is an Annual General Meeting, where the standing committee is dissolved and a new one democratically elected. We also have an inclusive approach to organising our events and are transparent in the way we deal with any issues that may arise.
We are currently exploring ideas of hosting combined events with other local school Parent's Associations, notably involving a Quiz Night and we look forward to sharing other ideas with them.
Finally, whilst there is a core of parents who tend to get things organised, it's always a pleasure to see new faces too and every parent is encouraged to become active in FOGS and have a say in what way we can provide support and further fundraise for the school.
Saturday club is organised and run by a group of parents form 9 30am to 11 30am each Saturday during term time. They run two very successful karate clubs as well as providing a range of other activites such as drama, arts and crafts and table tennis. Around 30 to 40 chidlren attend each week, so along with their parents, Globe is pretty busy every Saturday! You will find a link to the latest Saturday club offer letter below.
